Problems & Issues

Hi there! Where has the month gone? I can't believe February 2014 is almost here ~ I feel like I misplaced January!

Today I finally received the fabric I've been waiting on for 3 months! Problem #1 - I had to pay shipping charges again and the postman just asked me for an additional 12 bucks to release my package. Good grief! Good stuff in there though, right?
So anyway, this month I really wanted to finish my son's ninja quilt as my only goal for January's ALYoF. Here's problem #2 - I measured his bed a few times and yet..
his quilt is about 12 inches too short for his bed. I do have more fabric, but I'm not sure what to do here. I could make maybe 8 smaller stars to go across the top or something? I'm so motivated to leave it and just pretend I was leaving room for his pillow up top ;). Suggestions?

Problem #3 - I joined the Sweet Pouch Swap on IG and was paired with a really great partner. I found a cool pouch to make and my nicest scraps and I love the result. The problem occurred when I went to check my email for her address. I came across her preferences again. She likes bold & bright with no flowery pastels. Whooops!!!!! I guess I need to make this sucker again.

I got my Stash Bee block done today too. This is a 16" block made for Alison called "Firewheel." I learned to make fast flying geese - yehaw!

With just a few days left of this month, I've got a doll quilt to complete, as well as my Japanese x & + blocks and the ALQS. Whew - better get busy!

ps - sewing "problems" are my favorite kind cause I can solve them by spending more time sewing ;)

2014 Finish Along ~ Quarter 1 goals

Hello again! I had a chance to sit down and make myself a good list today. I wanted to get some direction and not just go crazy. When I go crazy, I miss things (which is why I just finished my October & November bee blocks - oops!)

Anyhow, here's my list o'crap to do this quarter (not including bee blocks):
1. Finish my son's Ninja quilt

2. Turn this fq bundle of Garden Party into this for a special couple

3. Family room pillows using this FQ bundle (had to use a pic because I've been waiting for this fabric for more than 3 months!!!)

4. Turn these bee blocks into a finished quilt for my bed

5. Turn these "drunk love in a log cabin" bee blocks into guest room quilt

6. Finish king size DS Florence Churn Dash quilt for my cousin-in-law (backing fabric is also in the order I'm waiting on)

7. Make the Tipsy City Quilt from the Quilting Modern book for Another Little Quilt Swap

8. Finish my mini from Lu Summers' Improv class at FQR '13

9. Quilt for Granny

Plus those everlovin' bee blocks for December and January - good grief!!

January - A Lovely Year of Finishes

Hello again! I still haven't made any resolutions to break, but I thought I'd jump in and challenge myself to get some things done with

Several months ago, I began gathering fabric with the intention of making a Christmas quilt for my son. 14 year olds can get on your nerves pretty regularly, so I figured he should have something to hang onto to show that I do like him..usually haha.  Anyway, as Christmas approached, I let myself off the hook and decided to just give him the quilt top and finish it later. You may recall that I did this last year with my eldest son.  That quilt top accidentally got packed up by the movers and put in storage - oops! ANYWAY, here's my younger son on Christmas morning

So my goal this month is to get this baby finished for my boy!

Happy New Year

Well hello there! I hope your New Year is off to a fantastic start! I'm trying to come up with some resolutions that won't be broken within a day. I noticed a lot of "fabric fasting" and "stashbusting" blog posts, but I'm not even going to pretend to join that! I do want to learn German so I don't have any more bald eyebrows incidents while we live here and I hope to blog more. I feel like I shouldn't blog if I don't have something to share, to maybe blogging more will mean sewing more?

Anyway, on that note, here's a little something I whipped up for my daughter today
I know it's really "rectangly," but so is her bed!

She likes it and I know it looks like her clothes don't match, but she showed me that there's a neon green stripe in that skirt too

Just kiddin' - I only finished the binding today. I had made the tiny quilt for her doll Sally to open on Christmas morning and decided it would be nice for her to have a matching one. In a fit of efficiency, I got it done today! I'll have to take some pictures during the day tomorrow.

On another note, I attempted to make a Christmas pillow for my boring couch using my Pretty in Patchwork Holidays book.
I learned a few things, including the fact that I don't know how to blow up a pattern 400% with my computer. I had to make up my own tree shape and when I got to the cutting it out stage I realized that you can still see through my background. Nobody told me not to use white!!
so, this sucker will be sitting on the windowsill until someone has a good suggestion :)

Happy New Year again - talk to ya soon!
