Poetic Shouting

Hi friends,

I've finally finished my great-aunt Bush's quilt! She was recently placed in hospice care, so I wanted to send her something cozy to cuddle with.

I settled on a Poetica fat quarter bundle in rose ballad from Hawthorne Threads and got to work. This actually took me a full 2 weeks! I do have to account for summer - the kiddos are home and demand entertainment AND my A/C was broken for 3 days .. the hottest 3 days in PA this year of course. I had some Kona Champagne for the sashing and I found a hot pink in my stash as well. The drama happened when I was finishing up the quilting and noticed that the white part of my sewing machine was tinted hot pink. Yikes! I pre-washed the *&)* fabric and it still stained my machine. I hesitated to wash the quilt when it was finished for fear of bleeding, but I'd recently read a blog that mentioned this product...
Shout Color Catcher, 24 Count (Pack of 12)
I threw 3 sheets in the wash, said a little prayer, crossed my fingers (for good measure) and guess what?
It didn't bleed! I'm a believer - thanks SHOUT!

Poetic Shouting finished at about 68"x90" with 12.5" blocks.

Have you ever had a completed quilt ruined with color bleeding? What was your solution?

Swaps

Hi Friends! I think I may be addicted to mini quilt swaps. It's so fun to receive something totally unexpected in the mail! For Doll Quilt Swap 12, I received this beauty from my partner, Nicole.
Block Library by Nicole
And for Quilting Gallery's New Beginnings Mini Swap, I received this one from my new Alaskan friend, Natalie - the detail is really amazing, including the beading, sparkles and quilting.

My pkg with a gift for the doggies, a pin cushion, embroidery floss, notebook, and pouch

And for the Dandelion Quilt Swap Dandelion Quilts Mini Swap, my partner Joy expressed a love of batiks. I found some Tonga Batiks from Timeless Treasures to pair with Kona charcoal and made this 20" mini.

Joy sent me 2 minis - one which perfectly and magically matches my dining room - Bingo! The other is a batiks with cool quilting in the negative space. I lucked out!

I'm thinking of hosting a swap of some sort - mug rugs or minis - anyone interested?

Friday Finish

Hey friends,

I actually finished this last Friday - I have no idea what I was waitin' on - this baby quilt measures about 59" square using Daisy Cottage charms that I scored from Quilting in the Rain's last sale. I made 9 patches, framed them & then cut 'em out wonkily.  The non-charm blocks were made using fabrics I found on clearance a few months ago at Connecting Threads! They include : Woodgrain (dk brown); Robin (yellow); and Packed Posies (taupe).. The posy print in jade and woodgrain are still available.

Back

Speaking of sales - which I LOVE to do - Quilt Kit Market is currently having a going-out-of-business sale - I'm not sure what the last day is, so pop over there soon! I got some really great deals - everything is 30-50% off..

Also, Green Fairy Quilts is currently offering 25% off all Moda and Riley Blake precuts (including new releases!)  I finally got my Lucy's Crab Shack!

Now, if UPS cooperates and delivers  while the hubs is out of town, I'll be all set!

Question: What's your favorite online fabric shop? Why?
